Definitions
- Spot price
- A current market reference for precious metal under specified market conventions, unit, currency, and timing.
- Bid and ask
- Quoted buying and selling sides whose difference is commonly described as a spread.
- Premium
- An amount above a reference metal value that may reflect product, fabrication, distribution, or transaction factors.
A price needs context
Record the provider, timestamp, metal, unit, currency, and price label. A bare number cannot show whether it is spot, converted spot, bid, ask, or retail.
Currency conversion introduces another source and timestamp and does not create a verified local retail price.
Reference versus transaction value
Physical products, account products, and local dealers can have different costs, spreads, taxes, and availability. This guide supplies no live price and makes no prediction.
An actual realizable value may differ from a reference calculation.
When price is relevant to Zakat
The calculators accept user-entered prices and do not fetch market data. Record the source and valuation date used for the estimate.
Use one consistent currency and a price matching the selected metal and purity basis.
Practical examples
A complete price note
Instead of recording only a number, note the external provider, date and time, currency, per-gram or per-troy-ounce unit, and whether the figure is a spot reference or transaction quote.
Common mistakes
- Calling converted spot a verified local retail price.
- Omitting the quotation unit or currency.
- Treating a reference price as a guaranteed transaction value.
