Silver Zakat Calculator
Estimate Zakat on owned silver using a selected silver-based Nisab profile and values entered by you.
What this tool does
Works out 2.5% of the value of silver you own, after comparing that value against a Nisab threshold you choose. Silver is assessed on its own here rather than pooled with other wealth.
When to use it
- Silver is the holding you are assessing and you want it kept separate from gold and cash.
- You know the weight in grams and have sourced a per-gram silver price.
- You want to see how the silver-based threshold changes the outcome compared with a gold-based one.
How the figure is produced
- Your silver weight in grams is multiplied by the per-gram price you enter to give a silver value.
- Any eligible liabilities you enter are subtracted to give net Zakatable wealth.
- The Nisab threshold is the weight of your selected profile multiplied by the per-gram price you entered, or the flat amount you typed if you chose the manual basis.
- If Hawl is marked complete and net wealth is at or above the threshold, the result is 2.5% of net Zakatable wealth.
Worked example
Someone holds 900 grams of silver, has sourced a price of 0.90 per gram, has no liabilities to enter, and has selected the 595-gram silver Nisab profile with Hawl complete.
- Silver value (900 g × 0.90)
- 810.00
- Eligible liabilities
- 0.00
- Net Zakatable wealth
- 810.00
- Nisab threshold (595 g × 0.90)
- 535.50
- Threshold status
- At or above Nisab
- Estimated Zakat (2.5% of 810.00)
- 20.25
The same 810.00 assessed against a gold-based threshold would normally fall well below it and return no amount. This is the single largest reason two people with identical wealth reach different answers.
Assumptions built in
- The weight entered is silver content, not the gross weight of an item containing other materials.
- The price entered matches the fineness of the silver you hold; no fineness conversion is applied for you.
- The currency selector is a display label. Nothing is converted between currencies, so every amount you enter must already be in the same currency.
- The threshold comparison is made on unrounded values.
Limitations
- No price is fetched, cached, or supplied for you. The figure used is the one you type, so the result is only as current as the price you sourced and the moment you sourced it.
- Because silver is far cheaper per gram than gold, the silver threshold is usually the lower of the two, and choosing it can bring wealth into scope that a gold threshold would leave out. The tool applies whichever basis you pick and does not recommend one.
- The output is arithmetic, not a ruling. Whether an asset is Zakatable at all, and which threshold applies to you, are questions this tool does not answer.
