Silver Weight Converter

Convert silver weight between grams, kilograms, troy ounces, and tola.

This tool converts weight units only. It does not determine purity, price, value, currency, or Zakat.

Understanding silver weight units

Grams are the base unit used by this converter. A kilogram contains 1,000 grams and is convenient for larger holdings.

Precious metals use troy ounces, which differ from ordinary household ounces. One troy ounce is 31.1034768 grams.

The tool uses a standard tola conversion of 11.6638038 grams. Unit conversion alone does not determine silver purity or monetary value.

What this tool does

Converts a silver weight between grams, kilograms, troy ounces, and tola, showing the gram equivalent it works through.

When to use it

  • A silver price is quoted per troy ounce and you need to work in grams.
  • A valuation or receipt records weight in a unit you are not calculating in.
  • You are preparing a silver weight for a Nisab comparison expressed in grams.

How the figure is produced

  1. The weight you enter is converted to grams using the fixed factor for the source unit.
  2. That gram figure is divided by the factor for the destination unit.
  3. The equivalent gram weight is shown alongside the converted figure, so the intermediate step is visible rather than hidden.

Worked example

Someone converts 1.5 kilograms of silver into troy ounces.

Entered weight
1.5 kilograms
Equivalent in grams (1.5 × 1,000)
1,500 g
Equivalent in troy ounces (1,500 ÷ 31.1034768)
48.225 troy oz

Because silver is quoted per troy ounce in most markets, converting to troy ounces first often makes a quoted price easier to apply than converting the price to grams.

Assumptions built in

  • Conversion factors are fixed: 1 kilogram = 1,000 g, 1 troy ounce = 31.1034768 g, 1 tola = 11.6638038 g.
  • The weight entered is the metal content you intend to convert; the tool has no view on what the item contains.

Limitations

  • This is a unit conversion only. No price, value, threshold, or Zakat figure is involved.
  • Tola and, in some markets, the ounce are used with more than one definition. The factors above are the ones applied here; check what your dealer or receipt means before relying on the result.
  • A troy ounce (31.1034768 g) is not the same as the avoirdupois ounce (about 28.35 g) used for everyday weights. Precious metals are quoted in troy ounces.
