Inflation Calculator
Estimate a future cost or the future purchasing power of a fixed amount using assumptions entered by you.
How the calculation works
Future cost multiplies the running value by one plus the entered annual rate. Purchasing power divides the running value by the same factor. The yearly rows and headline use one calculation path with full internal precision.
Assumptions
The same user-entered rate is applied each year. Negative values represent illustrative deflation rather than a prediction.
What is not included
- Actual inflation varies over time and by country, category, and household.
- General inflation may not match housing, food, education, healthcare, or personal spending.
- Taxes, investment returns, wages, currency movements, and individual price changes are not included.
- Negative inflation assumptions represent illustrative deflation.
Worked example
Using `$10,000`, a user-entered 3% annual rate, 10 years, and Future cost mode produces $13,439.16. This is an illustrative assumption, not a published statistic or prediction.
