Cash Zakat Calculator

Estimate Zakat for cash-based holdings using the assumptions, threshold profile, and values you provide.

Deposits, receivables, and liabilities can be treated differently depending on applicable guidance. Include only amounts you consider relevant to your calculation.
Currency and Nisab

All monetary amounts must be entered in the selected currency. Changing currency does not convert values.

Select the basis you intend to use. No option is presented as universally preferred.

What this tool does

Totals the cash-type balances you enter, subtracts the liabilities you consider eligible, compares the result against a Nisab threshold, and applies 2.5% if the threshold is met.

When to use it

  • Your wealth is held mainly as cash, current and savings balances, or money set aside for a specific purpose.
  • You want a figure for the cash portion alone, separate from metals or investments.
  • You are checking whether a change in balances or debts moves you across the threshold.

How the figure is produced

  1. The balances you enter are added together to give gross Zakatable cash.
  2. The eligible liabilities you enter are subtracted to give net Zakatable wealth.
  3. That net figure is compared against the threshold implied by the Nisab basis you selected — a metal profile priced at the per-gram figure you supplied, or a flat amount you typed.
  4. If Hawl is marked complete and net wealth reaches the threshold, 2.5% of the net figure is returned.

Worked example

Someone holds 8,000 in a current account, 14,000 in savings, and 500 in physical cash. They treat 1,500 of currently due obligations as deductible, and have chosen a manual Nisab threshold of 5,000 with Hawl complete.

If the same person instead deducted a full 200,000 mortgage balance, net wealth would be negative and the tool would return nothing. That swing comes from the liability decision, not from the arithmetic.

Assumptions built in

  • Every balance is entered once. Money moved between your own accounts near the valuation date is easy to count twice, and the tool cannot detect that.
  • All balances are already in a single currency.
  • Liabilities entered are the ones eligible under the approach you follow — the tool accepts the figure without testing it.

Limitations

  • Which debts may be deducted is disputed. Deducting a full long-term mortgage balance and deducting only the instalments currently due produce very different answers, and this tool applies whichever number you give it.
  • Money saved for a house, a wedding, or an emergency is not automatically exempt because of its purpose; ownership is generally what matters.
  • The output is arithmetic, not a ruling. Whether an asset is Zakatable at all, and which threshold applies to you, are questions this tool does not answer.
  • The currency selector is a display label. Nothing is converted between currencies, so every amount you enter must already be in the same currency.

How this differs from the related tools

  • Main Zakat Calculator

Handles cash together with gold, silver, investments, and business assets. Prefer it when you hold more than cash, since Nisab is normally assessed on wealth as a whole.

  • Nisab Checker

Answers only the threshold question — whether an amount reaches Nisab — without computing a payable figure.

  • Is Zakat Due on Debt?

Covers the deduction question that drives most of the variation in the result above.
