Gold Zakat Calculator

Estimate Zakat on owned gold using a selected gold-based Nisab profile and values entered by you.

Weight should represent the gold you actually own. Enter the current price per gram in the selected currency. No live price or currency conversion is applied.
Gold purity and pricing

Purity describes the gold represented by your weight and price. The calculator does not convert weight between karats or apply a purity factor.

Enter a per-gram price that corresponds to the selected purity.

Required assumptions are not selected automatically.

All monetary values must use this currency. Changing currency does not convert values.

Purity is disclosed but does not change the entered weight or price.

What this tool does

Works out 2.5% of the value of gold you own, after comparing that value against a Nisab threshold you choose. It is built for the common case where gold is the main or only asset you are assessing.

When to use it

  • Gold is the bulk of what you are assessing and you want it isolated from other wealth.
  • You know the weight in grams and have sourced a per-gram price for the purity you hold.
  • You want to see the Nisab comparison and the resulting figure separately rather than folded into a combined total.

How the figure is produced

  1. Your gold weight in grams is multiplied by the per-gram price you enter to give a gold value.
  2. Any eligible liabilities you enter are subtracted to give net Zakatable wealth.
  3. The Nisab threshold is the weight of your selected profile (85g or 87.48g of gold, 595g or 612.36g of silver) multiplied by the per-gram price you entered, or the flat amount you typed if you chose the manual basis.
  4. If Hawl is marked complete and net wealth is at or above the threshold, the result is 2.5% of net Zakatable wealth. Otherwise no amount is returned, and the page says which condition was not met.

Worked example

Someone holds 120 grams of 22K gold, has sourced a price of 75.00 per gram for that purity, has 2,000 of eligible liabilities, and has selected the 85-gram gold Nisab profile with Hawl complete.

Gold value (120 g × 75.00)
9,000.00
Eligible liabilities
2,000.00
Net Zakatable wealth
7,000.00
Nisab threshold (85 g × 75.00)
6,375.00
Threshold status
At or above Nisab
Estimated Zakat (2.5% of 7,000.00)
175.00

Had the same person entered 3,000 of liabilities, net wealth would be 6,000.00 — below the 6,375.00 threshold — and the tool would return no amount rather than a smaller one.

Assumptions built in

  • The weight you enter is the weight of gold itself, not the gross weight of an item that also contains stones, clasps, or other metals.
  • The price you enter already corresponds to the purity you hold. Purity is recorded and displayed but is never used to convert the price for you.
  • The currency selector is a display label. Nothing is converted between currencies, so every amount you enter must already be in the same currency.
  • The threshold comparison is made on unrounded values; only the displayed figures are rounded.

Limitations

  • No price is fetched, cached, or supplied for you. The figure used is the one you type, so the result is only as current as the price you sourced and the moment you sourced it.
  • Jewellery worn in ordinary personal use is treated differently by different scholars, and this tool takes no position on it — it computes whatever weight you give it.
  • The output is arithmetic, not a ruling. Whether an asset is Zakatable at all, and which threshold applies to you, are questions this tool does not answer.
  • Selecting a silver-based Nisab profile while valuing gold is allowed and is a recognised approach, but the tool does not advise which basis you should follow.

How this differs from the related tools

  • Gold Value Calculator

Stops at the value of the metal. Use it when you only need the number to carry into another calculation, and use this page when you want the Nisab comparison and the 2.5% applied.

  • Main Zakat Calculator

Assesses gold alongside cash, investments, business assets, and liabilities in one total. Use it instead of this page when gold is one holding among several, because assessing each asset on its own page can push you over or under Nisab differently than assessing them together.

  • Zakat on Gold guide

Explains the underlying questions this tool cannot settle: how jewellery is treated, how purity affects valuation, and why scholars differ on the gold versus silver threshold.

Enter and verify the metal price
Gold and silver prices are entered manually. The website does not automatically retrieve a current market price. Independently verify the price, currency, unit, source, and timestamp you use. Results are estimates, and Zakat treatment can depend on personal circumstances and qualified scholarly guidance.
